The Staff Dentist serves as a practicing dentist who performs a full range of professional Dental procedures in connection with the treatment of commonly encountered Dental diseases or Dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative, and/or preventive measures. Provides direction and supervision of Dental staff and is responsible for Dental clinic administration at their assigned location. Dentist Basic Requirements A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~ Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. ["The Periodontist shall be proficient in all aspects of general dentistry including the ability to perform selected specialty services. The provider should possess the expertise and competency to perform the following: - Diagnosis and treatment planning in malocclusion cases where the masticatory function is severely impaired:\na) diagnosis and treatment of degenerative diseases affecting the supporting tissues, diagnosis and treatment of complex malocclusion involving a joint problem; and any periodontal disease case involving a great patient management problem.\n- Interpret conventional and three-dimensional images as they relate to periodontal and dental implant therapy\n-Formulate diagnoses and prognoses and develop a comprehensive treatment plan\n- Understand and discuss a rationale for the indicated therapy.\n- Evaluate critically the results of therapy\n- Integrate the current concepts of other dental disciplines into periodontics\n- Organize, develop, implement, and evaluate a periodontal maintenance program\n- Communicate effectively with dental and other health care professionals, interpret their advice, and integrate this information into the treatment of the patient.\n- Communicate effectively to patients the nature of their periodontal health status, risk factors and treatment needs.\n- Utilize allied dental personnel effectively\n- Integrate infection control into clinical practice.\n- Administer local anesthesia.\n- Nonsurgical management of periodontal diseases: a. Biofilm control\n- Mechanical scaling and root planing therapy\n- Local and systemic adjunctive therapy\n- Occlusal therapy\n- Surgical management of periodontal diseases and conditions:\na. Respective surgery, including gingivoplasty, gingivectomy, periodontal flap procedures, osteoplasty, ostectomy, and tooth/root resection\n- Regenerative and reparative surgery including osseous grafting, guided tissue regeneration, the use of biologics,\nand utilization of tissue substitutes, where appropriate.\n- Periodontal plastic and esthetic surgery techniques including gingival augmentation, root coverage procedures and crown lengthening surgery.\n- Tooth extraction.\n- Placement of implants:\na. Must be well versed in design, fabrication and use of radiographic and surgical guides.\nb. Must be well versed with placement of Zimmer, Nobel and Atlantis dental implants.\nc. Must be willing to train residents and general dentists in placement of implants. Work Schedule: Monday to Friday- 8am-4:30pm"]
