The primary purpose of this position is to function as a Dental Laboratory Technician. The position independently accomplishes all aspects of fabrication for a wide range of dental prostheses/appliances. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/27/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-08 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Individuals Occupational Requirements: Applicants who meet the Individual Occupational Requirements described below are fully qualified for the specified entry grade and must also meet the specialized experience requirements. Specialized experience may include: Use of dental laboratory material such as impression materials, plasters, stones, hydrocolloids, waxes, metals, acrylics, porcelain, and similar materials. Use of laboratory equipment such as hand tools, dental lathes, engines, and hand pieces, furnaces, casting machines, presses, flasks, and related equipment. Use of precision instruments such as articulators, surveyors, and microanalyzers. Construction of dental prosthetic appliances. In addition to meeting the above Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) and time in grade, applicants must also meet the specialized experience directly related to this position. To qualify at the GS-8 grade, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level or higher. Specialized Experience: Experience with form, structure and function of teeth) facial characteristics, occlusion, anatomic and functional characteristics of surrounding tissue, normal and abnormal dental anatomy and oral and related maxillo-facial structure and function. Ability to design and fabricate dental prostheses that restore masticatory function, facilitate normal speech and restore and maintain correct facial dimension. Ability to fabricate all implant-based appliances. Ability to visualize the relationships of the parts of the whole at each step in the construction process and remain alert to those elements of design and construction.
