The incumbent serves as a Dental Laboratory Technician for the New Mexico VA Healthcare System Dental Service, designing and fabricating complex dental prostheses/appliances. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/03/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-08 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: designing and fabricating complex dental prostheses/appliances, knowledge of normal and abnormal oral anatomy and dentition as these affect the design, fabrication and esthetics of the dental prosthesis being constructed, use of laboratory equipment such as hand tools, dental lathes, engines, and hand pieces, furnaces, casting machines, presses, flasks, and related equipment. Use of precision instruments such as articulators, surveyors, and microanalyzers. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 1.5 years of graduate education that is directly related to the work of this position as a Dental Lab Technician. Fabricates porcelain veneers for crowns, fixed partial dentures, implant and porcelain crowns through the application of appropriate platinum foil and ceramometal techniques. Constructs stone, amalgam, or electroplated dies, or casts with removable dies for fabricating crowns implants or fixed partial dentures.
