The role you’ll contribute:
This position serves as a patient advocate and works with a diverse group of individuals including families, physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff, assisting with financial and administrative support. The Financial Counselor performs insurance verification, pre-certification, in-house follow-up and discharge, pre-registration, registration and collecting upfront cash for patients into AdventHealth Ottawa in a pleasant and accurate manner. The financial counselor performs his/her duties by assisting and screening patient with the qualifications of the hospital’s financial assistance program. The Financial Counselor performs follow-up on outstanding balances and self-pay accounts. It also takes and processes payments from patients.

Schedule patients
Interacts and communicates with co-workers, physicians, hospital employees, patients and visitors in a considerate, positive manner.
Uses professional discretion to ensure confidentiality of information concerning employees, patients and the hospital, as outlined in hospital policies.
Manages incoming referrals for physicians by communicating with referring office and physicians to ensure appropriate medical records and referring information are available at scheduled appointments.
Protects the legal and financial standing of the hospital by obtaining appropriate signatures on consent to treat forms and other required assignment of benefits forms, adhering to written policies and procedures.
Incorporates patient, physician, customer needs and concerns into decision-making and organizational action.
Communicates with patient, families, support staff, and physicians to schedule initial visit and treatments.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
High School Diploma or Equivalent
1 to 2 Years of Position-Related Experience
